Senior Army Intelligence Officer Killed in Suspected Kidnap Attempt Near Abuja

The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has confirmed the killing of one of its senior officers, Colonel Abdulsalam Ude, following a deadly attack by armed men at his residence in the Phase 5 Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, on the outskirts of Abuja. The incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on Monday, July 27, according to the agency.

Earlier reports indicated that the assailants were attempting to abduct the officer when a gun battle broke out. During the attack, Colonel Ude was fatally shot, while his wife, driver and security guard sustained gunshot injuries and were taken for medical treatment.

DIA Confirms Incident

In an official statement, the DIA described Colonel Ude as a highly dedicated intelligence officer who served Nigeria with distinction in several strategic military and counter-terrorism assignments.

The agency said security and law enforcement agencies have launched a full investigation and vowed that everyone involved in the attack would be identified, arrested and prosecuted.

Security Concerns Renewed

The attack has renewed concerns about the growing insecurity around the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring communities, where kidnappings and violent attacks have become more frequent in recent years.

Security experts say the killing of a senior intelligence officer underscores the need for stronger intelligence gathering and enhanced protection for both military personnel and civilians.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests or identified the attackers.

The Defence Intelligence Agency said it is working closely with other security agencies to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
