Tinubu to Catholic Bishops: Nigeria Is Stabilising, Prosperity Is on the Horizon

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has told the leadership of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that Nigeria is gradually overcoming its economic and security challenges, insisting that the country is now on a path toward stability and prosperity.

Speaking during a meeting with the bishops at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu acknowledged that Nigerians have endured difficult economic conditions but said his administration's reforms are beginning to produce positive results. He maintained that the economy has recovered from a period of severe financial strain and that the government remains committed to improving the welfare of citizens.

Tinubu Highlights Security Reforms

The President said his administration has restructured Nigeria's security architecture to better combat terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

According to him, improved intelligence gathering, better coordination among security agencies, enhanced logistics and greater attention to the welfare of frontline personnel are already strengthening the country's security response. He expressed confidence that these measures would deliver lasting peace across affected regions.

Calls for National Unity

Tinubu urged religious leaders to continue promoting peace, unity and national cohesion, saying government alone cannot solve Nigeria's challenges.

He appealed to the bishops to encourage dialogue, support efforts to combat insecurity and continue praying for the country's progress. The President described faith leaders as important partners in promoting stability and social harmony.

Bishops Raise National Concerns

During the meeting, the Catholic bishops reportedly expressed concerns about the country's economic hardship, insecurity and the need for credible democratic institutions.

They urged the Federal Government to continue strengthening governance, protect the rights of citizens and ensure free, fair and transparent elections as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu Defends INEC's Neutrality

Responding to concerns about the electoral process, President Tinubu said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains impartial and has not intimidated any political party.

He insisted that all political parties have equal opportunities ahead of the 2027 elections and dismissed allegations of bias against the electoral commission.
