Tinubu Assures Northern Nigerians: 'Insecurity Will Soon Be Behind Us'

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its security challenges, particularly those affecting the northern region, as his administration intensifies efforts against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.

The President gave the assurance during the Third Late General Hassan Usman Katsina Memorial Conference held in Kaduna. He was represented at the event by his Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari.

'Insecurity Will Soon Be Behind Us'

Speaking at the conference, Tinubu said his government remains fully committed to restoring peace across Nigeria.

"While we continue to work day and night to secure our nation, by the grace of Allah, the challenges of insecurity confronting us, particularly in Northern Nigeria, will soon be behind us," the President said.

He stressed that security remains one of his administration's highest priorities and reaffirmed the government's determination to protect lives and property nationwide.

Government Expanding Military Capacity

Tinubu's latest remarks come just days after his administration approved one of the largest military expansions in recent years.

The Federal Government announced plans to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions while recruiting 28,000 additional personnel. According to the Presidency, the move is intended to strengthen military operations against insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other armed groups operating across the country.

The new divisions are expected to be established in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo and Benin City, with implementation taking place in phases.

Tribute to General Hassan Katsina

During the memorial conference, Tinubu paid tribute to the late General Hassan Usman Katsina, describing him as a patriotic leader whose service helped strengthen Nigeria during critical periods of its history.

The President said General Katsina's legacy of discipline, humility and national unity should continue to inspire future generations of Nigerians.

Focus Beyond Security

Tinubu also highlighted several programmes his administration says are improving education, infrastructure, transportation and energy.

He noted that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has enabled more than one million students to access higher education through financial support, while reforms affecting tertiary institutions are intended to strengthen institutional autonomy.

Nigerians Await Results

Despite the President's optimism, insecurity remains one of the country's biggest challenges. Communities in parts of the North-West, North-East and North-Central continue to face attacks from bandits, terrorists and kidnappers.

Tinubu's latest pledge is therefore likely to be closely watched by Nigerians hoping to see measurable improvements in security over the coming months.
