Abia Police Rescue Six Children, Arrest 51-Year-Old Man in Suspected Trafficking Case
Abia Police said six children aged three to seven were rescued in Aba and a 51-year-old suspect was arrested in a case being investigated as suspected child trafficking. Police said the children have been reunited with their families and further arrests are being pursued.
The Abia State Police Command said it rescued six children and arrested a 51-year-old suspect in a case being investigated as suspected child trafficking.
Police said the children, aged between three and seven, were found during an intelligence-led operation in Uratta, Aba, and were later reunited with their families.
Police Account of the Arrest
According to the command, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit in Aba North arrested Nnamdi Lazarus, 51, at his residence on August 6.
Police said he is being investigated for alleged abduction, conspiracy and child trafficking.
Children Identified by Police
The command identified the children as Nnenna Ogbuogu (5), Nwanne Ogbuogu (3), Amanda Iheke Emmanuella (3), Destiny Iheke Emmanuel (7), Anointing Iheke Emmanuel (5), and Ihechi Obasi (7).
Police said two are from Abriba and four are from Item, all in Abia State.
Legal Status and Next Steps
The allegations have not been tested in court. Police said investigations are continuing to identify other suspected members of the network and that charges are expected after investigation.
As of publication, the key confirmed outcome in police statements is that the six children were rescued and reunited with their families.
