Nigeria’s opposition is facing a major test ahead of the 2027 presidential election as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi and Seyi Makinde continue to pursue their presidential ambitions despite growing calls for a single opposition candidate. A coalition of opposition groups says it hopes to reach a consensus by September 30, but disagreements over who should lead the ticket could complicate the effort.
The Oyo State Police Command says it has rescued 17 children and arrested seven suspects following an investigation into an alleged interstate child-stealing and human-trafficking network. Police also say six children died while allegedly in the custody of members of the suspected network.
The Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi, has revealed that nine people were killed during a security operation to rescue kidnapped victims in Oyo State. The casualties included five security personnel and four civilians, while the DSS says the kidnappers were linked to an international terrorist organisation with alleged connections to Al-Qaeda.
