“Tinubu Will Lose by 4pm” — PRP Chairman Makes Bold 2027 Election Prediction

Peoples Redemption Party National Chairman Hakeem Baba-Ahmed says President Bola Tinubu would lose the 2027 presidential election before 4pm if Nigerians are allowed to vote in a free, fair and credible election. His comments, made on Channels Television, have sparked fresh debate about Tinubu’s re-election prospects and the strength of Nigeria’s opposition.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has made a striking prediction about Nigeria's 2027 presidential election, saying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could be defeated before 4pm if the election is conducted freely and fairly.

Baba-Ahmed made the comment during an appearance on Channels Television's Politics Today on Wednesday as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Asked when he expected the outcome to become clear, the PRP chairman said he would not predict a Tinubu defeat by noon but believed it could happen before 4pm.

“If it is a credible, free and fair election, I assure you Tinubu will lose. I won’t say before 12 noon, maybe before 4pm.”

The statement has quickly become one of the most discussed political comments surrounding the emerging 2027 campaign.

Baba-Ahmed Points to Osun Election

The PRP chairman based much of his argument on the outcome of the recent Osun State governorship election, where incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke secured another term against the APC candidate.

According to Baba-Ahmed, the result demonstrated that the ruling APC can be defeated at the ballot box even when opposition parties do not form a single electoral coalition.

He argued that parties competed separately in Osun, yet the APC was defeated.

Baba-Ahmed said there was therefore no reason the same type of electoral outcome could not occur at the national level in 2027.

His argument comes shortly after Adeleke's re-election, a result that has already become an important talking point in discussions about the 2027 presidential contest.

“There’s No Reason Why This Cannot Repeat”

Baba-Ahmed dismissed suggestions that Adeleke's victory may have been connected to an alleged political understanding involving Tinubu.

Instead, he said the result should be viewed as evidence that voters can defeat an incumbent political establishment when given the opportunity to make a free choice.

His assessment is particularly significant because the APC currently controls the presidency and a large portion of Nigeria's political structure.

Baba-Ahmed argued that control of political offices does not necessarily guarantee electoral victory.

PRP Chairman Criticises APC

The PRP leader also launched a strong criticism of the ruling party, describing the APC in unusually harsh terms.

He referred to the party as “a monster eating itself up and eating everybody up”, while questioning why Tinubu would remain politically concerned despite what he described as extensive support from governors and lawmakers.

Baba-Ahmed claimed that Tinubu has the backing of 31 governors and potentially about 75% of the National Assembly, yet remains politically unsettled.

His argument is that the size of the ruling party's political machinery does not necessarily translate into voter support.

The Bigger Question: Can Tinubu Be Defeated?

The central issue behind Baba-Ahmed's prediction is whether the opposition can translate dissatisfaction with the government into an effective electoral challenge.

The 2027 presidential election is expected to be highly competitive, with opposition politicians working to build stronger structures ahead of the contest.

Tinubu's supporters, meanwhile, are already mobilising for his re-election campaign.

The President's administration has repeatedly defended its economic reforms, arguing that they are laying the foundation for long-term economic growth despite the difficulties many Nigerians have experienced during the adjustment period.

Tinubu said in July that Nigeria was making “serious foundational progress” as his administration's reforms continued.

That creates two sharply different political narratives heading into 2027.

The ruling party is likely to campaign on its record and reforms, while opposition parties are expected to focus heavily on the cost of living, insecurity and other concerns among voters.

Baba-Ahmed Warns About Election Credibility

Beyond predicting a Tinubu defeat, Baba-Ahmed placed significant emphasis on the credibility of the 2027 election.

He warned that Nigerians must be allowed to freely express their preferences through the ballot box.

According to him, millions of Nigerians are angry and want an opportunity to express their views through voting.

He warned that manipulating the electoral process could create a serious threat to Nigeria's democracy.

His comments also included a warning for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Baba-Ahmed said Nigerians should not praise the commission's preparations prematurely and argued that its real test would come when it conducts a presidential election in which the incumbent is a contestant.

A Prediction, Not a Poll

Despite the attention generated by the “4pm” statement, it is important to distinguish political prediction from electoral evidence.

Baba-Ahmed was expressing his assessment of Tinubu's chances. He was not presenting an opinion poll or an official forecast showing that the President would lose before a particular time on election day.

The actual 2027 result will depend on factors including voter turnout, candidate selection, party organisation, regional voting patterns, campaign performance and the credibility of the electoral process.

The statement should therefore be understood as a political prediction from an opposition party leader, rather than an established forecast of the election result.

What People Are Saying Online

Baba-Ahmed's comments have generated strong reactions online, with political users interpreting the statement from very different perspectives.

Opposition supporters have welcomed the prediction and argued that the Osun election demonstrates that the APC can be defeated.

Some have particularly focused on the phrase “before 4pm,” turning it into a talking point about the strength of opposition sentiment heading into 2027.

Tinubu supporters, on the other hand, have questioned the basis for Baba-Ahmed's confidence and argued that winning a governorship election in Osun cannot automatically be used to predict a nationwide presidential result.

Another group of users has focused on the importance of free and fair elections, agreeing with Baba-Ahmed's call for voters to be allowed to make their choice without interference.

The debate has also produced comparisons with other opposition figures who have recently made strong predictions about Tinubu's prospects.

The 2027 Race Is Heating Up

The latest comments come as Nigeria's political parties begin moving from early positioning into more visible campaign activity.

Tinubu's supporters have already launched grassroots mobilisation efforts in different parts of the country, while opposition politicians are exploring alliances and strategies for challenging the APC.

The outcome of the 2027 election could therefore depend as much on the ability of opposition parties to organise effectively as on dissatisfaction with the ruling government.

Baba-Ahmed's prediction highlights the confidence some opposition figures have about their prospects.

But the road from political confidence to an actual presidential victory remains long.

What Happens Next?

The 2027 election is still months away, giving both the APC and opposition parties significant time to strengthen their campaigns.

For Tinubu, the challenge will be convincing voters that his administration's reforms and policies have produced enough progress to justify another term.

For opposition parties such as the PRP, the challenge will be turning criticism of the government into a convincing national alternative.

Whether Baba-Ahmed's dramatic “before 4pm” prediction becomes anything more than a political soundbite will ultimately be determined by Nigerian voters.

For now, however, his statement has added another layer of excitement to an increasingly competitive 2027 political conversation.

What People Are Saying

The strongest online reactions are centred around three issues:

  • Tinubu's supporters are challenging Baba-Ahmed to provide evidence for his prediction rather than relying on the Osun result.

  • Opposition supporters see the Osun election as evidence that APC's political dominance can be challenged.

  • Neutral observers are focusing on Baba-Ahmed's broader call for a credible election, arguing that the quality of the electoral process matters regardless of which candidate wins.

The most important takeaway is that Baba-Ahmed's “4pm” statement is a political prediction, not an election forecast backed by polling data.
